You know, sometimes I think that Kevin Smith channels George Lucas when it comes to thinking of ways to make a buck ... the only difference being, of course, Lucas has a much more lucrative property to work with.
In order to boost box office sales for Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Smith promised all fans who saw it twice on opening weekend (and mailed him their ticket stubs) a free, personalized poster. Well, that never really panned out ... I think a few people got the posters, but in the end, most fans were left out to dry.
Clerks 2 has a different, much more interesting approach to squeezing money out of the fanbase. Available on or soon after the release, Smith is thinking about releasing a podcast audio commentary for the film. That's right ... the guy who does some of the best commentaries in the businesss wants you to go see his film again with your iPod on ... an in-theater commentary track. That is pure genius. :)
